I sought the Lord with earnest heart,

But not by my “free will.”

He moved my soul and sweetly forced

Upon my heart His will.

It was not I that found the Lord,

But Christ, my Lord, found me!

Polluted, lost, and ruined was I,

And dead in sin when Christ,

My Savior, with His mighty hand

Of grace, took hold on me.

I hold Him now; but, this I know,

Christ first took hold on me!

Savior, I live and walk by faith.

You know that I love You!

Yet, these things are the answers of

My soul, my Lord, to You!

Your love to me, my Savior, is

The cause of love in me.
