I STAND AT THE DOOR AND KNOCK

Don Fortner

Behold," the Friend of sinners says,

"I stand at the door, and knock."

He is speaking to you and me,

"I stand at the door, and knock;

If any man will hear my voice,

I'll come in, and sup with him;

If any man opens his heart,

I'll come in, and sup with him."

Jesus, long I've heard You calling,

Gently knocking at my door;

But I had no will to open,

Though You knocked at my heart's door,

'Til, by love and grace unfailing,

You opened the door Yourself:

Now my heart bums for You, Savior-

Please don't leave me to myself.

Savior, see my door is open,

I have heard Your voice, Divine:

Enter, Lord, come take possession

Of my heart, and make it Thine!

Let me feast in sweet communion

On Your righteousness and blood:

Let me know Your cleansing power,

Christ, my Savior and my God.
