"Himself he cannot save."

The scorner's words are true;

To save His people Jesus had

To give the law its due.

"Himself he cannot save."

The Substitute must die!

Else God could not be just and still

This sinner justify.

"Himself he cannot save."

Bearing our sin and guilt,

Christ died the Just for the unjust;

For us His blood was spilt!

"Himself he cannot save,"

For He the Surety stood

For all who now by faith rely

Upon His precious blood.

"Himself he cannot save."

This is His highest praise;

Christ gave Himself to die for us,

Amazing love and grace!
