          Text:       Isaiah 6:1-13

Subject:  Isaiah’s Vision of Christ in His Glory

          Date:      Sunday Evening - August 20, 1989

          Tape #

          Introduction:

We need a vision.  The wise man said, “Where there is no vision the people perish.”  Without a vision there is no purpose in life, no driving force, no inspiration, no motivation.  Tonight, I want to show you The Vision We Need - “In the year that king Uzziah died, I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.”

Proposition:  We need a vision of Christ in His glory!

·        This is a picture of a sinner’s conversion experience.

·        This is a picture of a believer’s inspiration and motivation in life.

·        This is a picture of God sent revival.

·        This the making of a prophet!

There are five things in this chapter to which I call your attention:

I.      The Destruction of An Idol (v. 1).

Notice how the chapter begins - “In the year that King Uzziah died.”

A.  Uzziah was a great king.

He reigned in Jerusalem for 52 years.  In all those years, he did that which was right in the sight of God - (II Chron. 26:1-5).

1.   He was Isaiah’s cousin, as well as his king.

2.   Isaiah loved him to the point of idolizing him.

B. But Uzziah died under the curse of God.

This great man suffered a great fall - (II Chron. 26:15-21).  Isaiah was devastated!  But this was the gracious hand of God.  God destroyed a king that Isaiah might see The King.  God took away his earthly comfort, strength, and help, so that Isaiah might know him and find his comfort, strength, and help in him.

II.  The Revelation of Grace (vv. 1-4).

v.    1 - “I saw also the Lord…

                   “sitting”

                   “upon a throne”

                   “high and lifted up”

“and his train filled the temple.”

v.    2 - Seraphim means “Burner”

          only mentioned here.

          They are God’s messengers.

v.    3 - The Trinity

Holiness - God is and must be Holy

“The whole earth is full of his glory” - He shows   his glory everywhere in all things.

v.    4 - The Temple - His Church

III. The Confession of A Sinner (v. 5).

IV. The Cleansing of the Conscience (v. 6-7).

          “Then” - I saw, I heard, I said - “Then”

This live call is  the  gospel  of   redemption  accomplished

          (Isa. 40:1-2).

V.  The Commission of A Prophet (vv. 8-13).

·        God’s Servants are all Volunteers - (v. 8).

·        God’s Servants are all Sent - (v. 9).

·        God’s Servants are to some a Savor of Death unto Death - (vv. 10-12).

·        God’s Servants are to some a Savor of Life unto Life - (v. 13).

Blessed be God, there is a remnant according to the election of Grace.  “The Holy Seed.”  These are God’s portion!

Note:  The Teil tree and the oak, when they cast    their leaves in the winter look as though they are dead and withered, but the substance of life is in them!
