Three Appointments We Will Keep

"And as it is appointed unto men once to die; but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation."                      -- Hebrews 9:27-28

An Appointed Day Of Death

Yes, every living soul has an allotted space of time on this earth. No one is promised 70 years! Some barely live beyond conception. Some live a few days, a few months, or a few years. Even those who live to old age have lived but a very brief time, when that time is viewed in the light of eternity (2 Cor. 4:18-5:1). The length of your time on this earth was fixed by God's decree from eternity. The very means by which you shall die was ordained by him before you were born (Acts 17:26). At the day appointed, you shall die. Nothing will alter what God has ordained. Are you prepared to die now? Are you prepared to meet God? If not, I urge you now to trust the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. Only in him can sinners be prepared to meet God.

An Appointed Day Of Resurrection

Though no man knows the day or hour of Christ's coming, because God has hidden it from all men and even from the angels of heaven (Matt. 24:24-36; Mk. 13:32), he has appointed a day when Christ shall come, a day of restitution, restoration, and resurrection (Acts 3:21: 1 Thess. 4:13-18). When Christ comes again, there will be a great general resurrection, the resurrection of the just and of the unjust (John 5:28-29). The day of resurrection is also...

An Appointed Day Of Judgment

Yes, there is a day appointed when God will judge the world by Christ (Acts 17:31). There shall be a great, white throne judgment (Rev. 20:11-13). All who have a record of perfect righteousness, without any sin in the books of God's remembrance shall be rewarded with everlasting life and glory in heaven. All who are found guilty of sin, any sin, shall be cast into hell. The only way you can obtain a record worthy of heavenly glory is to be found in Christ, washed in his blood and robed in his righteousness! In that great day, God will neither justify the guilty, nor condemn the just, but will give everyone exactly what he justly deserves, either upon his own merit or upon the merit of Christ his Substitute.

At God’s appointed time you and I shall die. How will it be for your soul in that hour when the doctor shakes his head, when the cold sweat of death is on your brow, and you are about to meet God? At God’s appointed time, we shall be raised from the dead. At God’s appointed time, we shall stand before his great white throne! How will it be for you in that day? O sinner, flee away to Christ! Redemption, righteousness, and salvation is found in him alone. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved!” May God grant you grace to believe on his Son! O Lord God, grant poor sinners life and faith in Christ by the omnipotent power and grace of your Holy Spirit, for Christ’s sake.

Amen.
