JESUS CHRIST

OUR SAVIOR IS

JEHOVAH OUR GOD

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John 1:1

We are Trinitarians. We worship one God in the trinity, or tri-unity, of his sacred Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. There are three distinct Persons in the eternal Godhead. But those three Divine Persons are One. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one (1 John 5:7). The Father is God. The Son is God. And the Holy Spirit is God. Yet, they are not three Gods, but One God. And this eternal Godhead, in all the fulness of the Divine Beings, is revealed by and forever dwells in the body of that Man whose name is Jesus, the Christ.

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily…In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth…Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works…For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.” -- (Col. 2:9; John 1:14; 14:6-10; Isa. 9:6-7).

The triune God reveals himself to men, deals with men, and is known by men only in the Person of that One who is the only Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus (1 Tim.2:5; John 1:18;14:6). And this Man, Jesus Christ, is himself the eternal God (Rev. 1:4, 8). His name is Immanuel, God with us (Matt. 1:21-23).

This is the wondrous mystery of the incarnation: "God was manifest in the flesh" (1 Tim. 3:16). Jesus Christ is really and truly God, as much God as though he were not man. And he is really and truly man, as much man as though he were not God. Indeed, he must be both God and man in one glorious Person, or he could not be our Savior. Someone accurately said, "God could not suffer and man could not satisfy; but the God-Man both suffered and satisfied."

Jehovah Jesus bridged the gulf between God and man, which neither the holy God nor fallen man could ever bridge apart from him. God could not receive a guilty man. And man could not remove his guilt. But the glorious God-Man, Jehovah-Jesus, has established righteousness as a Man for men and suffered death as a Man for the atonement of men's sins. And the righteousness and atonement of this Man's life and death is of infinite merit for all who come to God by him, because this Man is God. God and man meet together in peace only in the God-Man, Jehovah Jesus. This is the doctrine of Holy Scripture. Jesus Christ our Savior is Jehovah our God.

Amen.
