THREE
THINGS NOT FOUND IN HEAVEN
"And
God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more
death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for
the former things are passed away." -- Revelation
21:4
I cannot begin to describe
the bliss and glory of the believer’s heavenly inheritance. Much that awaits
God’s elect is yet unknown. And that which is revealed is seen here "through a glass darkly." But here
are three things, with which all who live upon the earth are very familiar,
which shall not be found in heaven.
No Tears
There will be no tears in
heaven -- "God shall wipe away all
tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor
crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed
away" (Rev. 21:4).
Here we see much death,
experience much sorrow, and feel much pain. These things cause our eyes to
swell and our cheeks to burn. But our God shall soon dry our eyes. In heaven,
all that causes us to weep now, shall cease to be. Once we have left this world
of sorrow, we shall never weep again!
No Sin
There will be no sin in
heaven. -- "There shall in no wise
enter into it anything that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination,
or maketh a lie" (Rev. 21:27).
Here we are yet defiled by
much sin. Here we, because of the infirmity of the flesh, yet work much
abomination and deceit. But soon we shall drop this robe of flesh, and with it
the nature of sin, and we shall never do evil again. O happy, glorious day! We
shall be done with sin forever! And there will be no possibility of God's elect
ever being defiled again.
No Curse
And there shall be no curse
in heaven. -- "There shall be no
more curse" (Rev. 22:3). Where there is no sin, there is no curse.
Where there is no possibility of sin, there is no possibility of curse. We will
suffer no curse from God for sin, because Christ suffered the curse of the law
for us (Gal. 3:13).
Can you grasp this blessed
truth by faith? God will see to it that none of his elect suffer any loss,
sorrow, or pain because of their sin. Indeed, he will so thoroughly rout and
overrule this enemy of our souls that, through the redemptive work of Christ,
even our sin shall be turned into a blessing. What greater blessing could there
be than full redemption from and complete forgiveness of all our sins?
