WHAT DO THOSE PEOPLE OUT AT
GRACE BAPTIST CHURCH BELIEVE?
Part 2

What do those people out at Grace Baptist Church believe? We believe in preaching Christ. We believe in pointing men to Christ. We believe in worshipping Christ.

On one occasion, during our Lord's earthly ministry, he was eating dinner in the home of Simon the Pharisee, a religious leader in that day (Luke 7:36-40). As they sat around the table a woman walked in and stood behind our Lord. Every eye was fixed on that woman. Everyone in the house was shocked by her presence, except of course our Lord. She was a woman of ill-repute. As this woman looked at our Iord's feet, dusty and dirty, after a day's travel, she began to weep. She bathed his feet with her tears, and wiped them with her hair. Then she picked up his feet and kissed them. I know that all of this was done because she loved the Lord and she had experienced his blessed forgiveness. But there is something more in the story. As this woman looked at our Lord's dusty, dirty feet, realizing that no one had taken the time to wash them, she began to weep because these people had neglected him. That's the way I feel today. My heart is grieved, I weep because of the neglect of the Lord Jesus Christ in our churches. In most churches and in most pulpits, the Lord Jesus Christ is almost totally neglected. This neglect of Christ grieves my heart. I know that it grieves some of you too. So often you go to church, hungry and thirsty, you need comfort and refreshing, you long to see Christ, hear Christ, and worship Christ; but you come away empty. You say, like Mary did when she stood before the empty tomb, "They have taken away my Lord and I know not where they have laid him" (John 20:13). How long has it been since you heard a real gospel sermon? How long has it been since you heard a man, under the power of God, open the scriptures and point you to the Lord Jesus Christ? Most of you, I dare say, cannot remember the last time you heard a man plainly and clearly preaching on the Person and work of Christ, explaining the beauties of his glorious Person, thewonders of his redeeming love, and the efficacy of his saving grade.

Well, at Grace Church, we believe that the one thing men and women need is to see Christ. I can't preach like I wish I could, but this one thing I am determined to do, I am determined to preach Christ and him crucified. Whenever I stand before men to preach, I am going to preach the gospel. Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Tuesday night, as often as we meet here and wherever I go across this country, I keep on doing the same thing. I say to men and women everywhere, "Behold the Lamb of God!" I will leave it to other men to straighten out the politicians. I am sent to preach Christ. I will leave it to other men to govern the nation. I am sent to preach Christ. I will leave it to other men to fix the economy. I am sent to preach Christ.

This is another of the distinctions of Grace Baptist Church. We believe in preaching Christ. We preach Christ alone. We preach Christ always. We preach Christ for all things. God being my helper, so long as I have breath in my lungs, the pulpit of Grace Baptist Church will never be used for anything except to point men to Christ. Christ is our only Prophet. Christ is our only Priest. Christ is our only King. Christ is our only Hope. Christ is our only Help. Christ is our only Strength. Christ is our only Comfort. Christ is our only Peace. Christ is our only Goal. Christ is our only Savior.

Do you long to again hear a man preaching the Lord Jesus Christ in all the fulness of his saving power and divine glory? Come worship with us at Grace Baptist Church. Our one labor is to preach Christ. Our one desire is to worship Christ. Christ alone is Pre-eminent in our assembly.
