The subject of Ruth's story (in the Old Testament) is redemption. This book is
the picture of Christ's free love to sinners, seen through Ruth's experience.
But, I warn you, those who are looking for an easy read - don't buy this book!
For it pulls no punches and it deals with the real issues that affect us all
spiritually. It is direct and forthright, our sin is confronted and our excuses
corrected through the application of Spirit-inspired truth.
Don Fortner is thorough in his exposition of Scripture, faithful and fair as he
expounds and makes clear the doctrines of grace. This is a story of love, hope
and faith revived from the ashes of disobedience and failure, but especially of
a God who is merciful to sinners. Those young in the faith will learn much
about their Redeemer and his dealings with them daily. Those who have lost
their way and grown cold will be warmed and overwhelmed by Christ's love for
them still, and those who are yet in their sin will be convinced of their
rebellion against a loving, righteous Redeemer and brought to repentance and
faith in Christ. Those who are going on for Christ will rejoice and be
encouraged to continue in his Word and to his glory.
This book is a challenge to all in our generation who live by their feelings
and not by faith in Christ. You cannot read it and remain the same. It is
provocative and demands a response. This is strong medicine, but all who taste
it will be made whole!
