God says of every heaven-born soul, Òye are unleavened,Ó without corruption, because ÒChrist our passover is sacrificed for us.Ó Believers, though utterly corrupt by nature, are without sin because Christ was made sin for us and took away our sins. And that new man created in us by grace is Òcreated in righteousness and true holiness.Ó

Glorying in the Cross Don Fortner

(Tune: #400 — Jesus, And Can It Ever Be —LM)

1.    Can sinners gain the realms of bliss

By their imperfect righteousness?

                  Impossible! `Tis Christ alone

Who pleased the Lord and claimed His throne!

2.    GodÕs Son obeyed the law for us,

That God in grace and mercy just,

                  Might righteously forgive our sin,

And bring us holy home to Him.

3.    We glory only in the cross,

And count all else but dung and dross.

                  Trusting Christ Jesus crucified,

                  Righteous, redeemed, weÕre sanctified!

Not a Word, Not Even a Hint

Romans 9:13

There is not a word, not even a suggestion of a hint, in the Volume of Holy Scripture to indicate in any way that God loves all people, that Christ died for all the human race, or that God the Holy Ghost calls all to faith in Christ. In fact, the Scriptures plainly and universally teach that God loved Jacob and hated Esau, that Christ laid down his life for his sheep and not for goats, and that God the Holy Ghost calls those who trust Christ and no one else. — ÒSo then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercyÓ (Romans 9:16).

Some Dangers of Modern Translations

Psalm 138:2

My determination to stick with the King James is not simply a matter of preference. I see some great dangers and nothing beneficial in the flood of Bible translations in modern times.

The Translators

Who are the translators? I do not question the learning and scholarship of the men chosen to do the work. But do they believe God? Are they men who believe the gospel of GodÕs free and sovereign grace in Christ? Sadly, those chosen to do the work are chosen from various denominations to make sure the work is as widely acceptable as possible. Men in such a position, if they are not born again and taught of God, could and would corrupt the Scriptures. Those who are dead in trespasses and in sins cannot be trusted to translate the Book of God. They are not capable of understanding that which is inspired of God.

Once a second translation is accepted (let alone a dozen), the question must be asked (and often is) — ÒWhich is the Word of God?Ó What confusion this has caused! The multitude of translations has caused the average person to look to ÒtrainedÓ religious leaders to decide for them what is and what is not the Word of God, treating preachers and Bible teachers as priests!

Thee, Ye, and You

Besides all that, much is lost in all modern translations. Did you ever wonder why the Bible sometimes uses the words Òthee,Ó Òthou,Ó and ÒthyÓ and at other times uses the word Òyou

In the New Testament there is distinct difference between the words Òthee,Ó Òthou,Ó and ÒthyÓ and the words Òye,Ó Òyou,Ó and Òyours.Ó Many object to using the word ÒYouÓ when referring to or speaking to our God, superstitiously thinking that ÒtheeÓ or ÒthouÓ is more reverent than Òyou.Ó That is not true. It is no more reverent to say, ÒHallowed be thy name,Ó than ÒHallowed be your name.Ó Both are accurate translations of our SaviorÕs words. We do not have to use Òthee,Ó Òthou,Ó Òthy,Ó and ÒthineÓ for our prayers to be heard by God.

Yet, as I said, there is distinct difference between the words Òthee,Ó Òthou,Ó and ÒthyÓ and the words Òye,Ó Òyou,Ó and Òyours.Ó Whenever you read the words Òthee,Ó Òthou,Ó and ÒthyÓ in your Bible, those words are always singular pronouns, referring to one person. But, when you read the words Òye,Ó Òyou,Ó and Òyours.Ó Those are plural pronouns, referring to more than one person.

Another thing lost in all modern translations of the Bible is the linear verb tense, indicated by the ÒethÓ ending of linear tense verbs in the King James. Whenever you read a word ending in the letters Òeth,Ó those letters indicate a present, continuing action. That cannot be conveyed in any modern translation.

When you pick up your King James Bible, be assured, you are holding in your hands the very word of God, preserved and given to you in your native tongue. Cherish it. Read it. Believe it. It no more needs modernization and updating than the writings of Shakespeare or Milton. Any attempt to modernize it only corrupts it.

Five Facts Revealed

Isaiah 45:17

Here are five blessed, glorious facts, most plainly revealed to us in the Holy Scriptures. Be sure you understand them.

1.     There are some men and women in this world whom God has chosen to salvation from eternity, who must and shall be saved (Romans 11:5; Ephesians 1:3-7; 1 Thessalonians 2:13-14).

2.     The Lord Jesus Christ has made atonement for the sins of GodÕs elect (all his elect and only his elect) and redeemed them from the curse of the law by his own precious blood. The Word of God universally teaches the sweet, gospel doctrine of Limited Atonement, that is particular and effectual redemption (Isaiah 53:8; John 10:11; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Galatians 3:13-14; Ephesians 1:6; Hebrews 9:12).

3.     All of GodÕs elect, having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, shall be called from death to life by irresistible grace and omnipotent mercy of God the Holy Ghost (Galatians 3:13-14; Psalm 65:4). Eternal life is the gift of God. Faith in Christ is the gift of God.

4.     The means by which GodÕs elect are born again, called, and given faith in Christ is the preaching of the gospel (Romans 10:17; Hebrews 4:12; James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:23-25).

5.     And there is a specific day appointed by God before time began in which he will call each of his elect to life and faith in Christ by the gospel (Ezekiel 16:6-8; Psalm 110:3).

God will see to it that the sinner he has chosen and his Son has redeemed, will be in the place he has ordained, with his heart prepared to receive the gospel at the appointed Òtime of love.Ó And he will send his Word to that sinner by a preacher in the irresistible power and grace of his Spirit.

You can mark this down. If you are GodÕs, he is going to get you. There is a time beyond which you cannot escape, a place beyond which you cannot go, when God will cross your path, meet you in mercy, and arrest your soul! There is a day appointed when the gospel will come to you in power! Perhaps this is that day!

It Pleased the Lord to Bruise Him

Isaiah 53:10

The death of Christ pleased every attribute of the Father. The death of Christ pleased GodÕs wisdom. The death of Christ enables God to be both just and justifier. The death of Christ pleased GodÕs justice. Christ suffered for the sin of His people until the debt was paid in full. The death of Christ pleased GodÕs mercy and grace. The death of Christ enables God to be merciful to His people in justice because their sin has been put away. Since Christ died God can justify the ungodly, God can forgive sin, and God can accept His people into His presence because He is pleased with them in Christ. — Pastor Frank Tate
