Sanctified by the Triune God Don Fortner

(Tune: #17 — Come, Thou Fount — 87.87D)

1.    Sing all saints, beloved and chosen, you for whom the Savior died,

Claim your gifts and praise the Giver. — "Ye are washed and sanctified,"

Sanctified by God your Father, and by Jesus Christ His Son,

And by God, the Holy Spirit, by the holy, Three-in-One!

2.    One with Christ, beloved, accepted, righteous made by GodÕs decree,

Sanctified when God accepted us in Christ our Surety!

Sanctified when we with Jesus lived, and died, and rose again!

Sanctified by God the Spirit when by grace weÕre born again!

3.    Holiness is ours in Jesus, not by works that we have done,

But by GodÕs free love and mercy. — Yes, by sovÕreign grace alone!

By His Word, and truth, and promise, by His righteousness and blood,

Holiness in Christ our Savior makes us fit to see our God!

4.    He will sanctify us wholly in the resurrection day.

Blameless at our Savior's coming, body, spirit, soul shall be!

He perfected once forever, by His blood, the sanctified!

Spotless, blameless, guiltless, perfect, is the SaviorÕs ransomed Bride!

If Christ does not have the preeminence in all that is preached, then something is seriously amiss. All of the doctrines of the Word of God can be believed and preached, but if they are not preached and understood in light of the cross of Christ they are distorted and misunderstood. Every blessing that man receives from God is in and through his Son the Lord Jesus Christ.

ÒWhy Will Ye Go with Me?Ó

(Ruth 1:11)

Pastor Mike Walker

Naomi and her two daughters-in law, Orpah and Ruth are leaving Moab and are on their way to Bethlehem, the house of Bread. They are on this journey because they had heard that God had visited his people in giving them bread. Naomi turns to Orpah and Ruth and put this question to them, she said ÒWhy will ye go with me?Ó She was asking them, ÒWhat do you hope to gain by going with me?Ó You need to count the cost. What will it cost you to go with me?

Ruth and Orpah counted the cost, but only Ruth would pay the price. Orpah went back to her people and to her gods. To Orpah the price was too costly. Ruth said, ÒEntreat me not to leave thee, thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.Ó My question to you is — Why will you Go?Ó

Christ and Heaven Our All

Pastor Rick Warta

We ought not to first seek security and safety and comfort for ourselves in this world. Our Lord and Savior in whom we trust has said, ÒSeek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto youÓ (Matthew 6:33). Therefore, set your eyes on Christ and put your house in order to seek him first, and trust that he will take care of everything else. Since you confess that Christ and his kingdom is the treasure of your heart, arrange everything in your life to align with your treasure (Matthew 6:21).

Christ Our Surety

Robert Hawker

Our Surety is expressly said to have been made both sin and a curse for his redeemed, that they Òmight be made the righteousness God in himÓ (2 Corinthians 5:21; Galatians 3:13). And what a blessedness is there contained in this one view of the completeness of the church in Jesus! So that, in the very moment that the child of God feels the workings of corruption within him, and is groaning under a body of sin and death, which he carries about with him, though he sees nothing in himself but sin and imperfection, yea, sometimes, as it appears to him, growing imperfections, yet looking to the Lord Jesus as his Surety, and considering the RedeemerÕs holiness, and not anything in himself, as the standard of justification, here he rests his well-founded hope. This was blessedly set forth by the Holy Ghost. — ÒSurely, shall one say, even to him shall men come, and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamedÓ (Isaiah 45:24).

ÒI Would not have You to be IgnorantÓ

1 Thessalonians 4:13

The souls of believers, redeemed sinners, men and women who have been made righteous before God in Christ, the souls of GodÕs saints return to God at death. Our departed brothers and sisters, as soon as they closed their eyes in death, opened them again in glory. There they shall remain until the second coming of Christ.

Then, when Christ comes again in his glory, he will bring them all with him, raise their bodies from the dust, and reunite their bodies and souls and spirits in resurrection glory. Believers yet living when Christ comes again shall then be changed, glorified, caught up into glory. Thereafter, we shall forever be with the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18).

Immediate Damnation

Though hell is as real as heaven and damnation as real as salvation, I here say little about the horrible state of the wicked and unbelieving after death. They shall immediately, as soon as they close their eyes in death, wake up in the torments of the damned in hell.

If you are yet without life, without faith, without Christ, and thus without hope, be warned. The wrath of God is upon you. If you die without Christ, you must be immediately and forever damned. To die without Christ is to die without hope.

Immediate Paradise

For the believer, things are different. The believer, as soon as he dies, is alive forever. His soul immediately goes home to God in heaven. The Word of God, when speaking of the believerÕs death, always represents it as an immediate entrance into heavenly blessedness and glory.

Actually, for the believer, death is not death at all, but the beginning of life. Our Lord said, ÒWhosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never dieÓ (John 11:26). GodÕs elect never die. The death of the body is the liberty of the soul. And as soon as our souls are freed from this body of sin and death, we shall enter heaven.

Walking in Uprightness

When the righteous perish from the earth, they live in uprightness forever, Òeach one walking in his uprightnessÓ (Isaiah 57:1-2). When the righteous die, they are taken away from evil, enter into a world of peace, and rest in their beds. Their bodies rest in hope in the grave, in hope of the resurrection. Their souls rest in the arms of Christ, their Redeemer. Our departed friends have entered into everlasting rest (Hebrews 4:9-11). There they walk in their uprightness. God reckons the righteousness of Christ, imputed to us in justification and imparted to us in sanctification, to be our righteousness. And he makes it ours perfectly and experimentally in heaven. There our departed brethren walk in their uprightness, in spotless purity and holiness, in shining robes of bliss and glory. As soon as a believer dies, he is carried by GodÕs angels into heaven, AbrahamÕs bosom, the place of endless comfort (Luke 16:22-25).
