There is not a hint of universal redemption in the Book of God. Every text, every prophecy, and every type in Holy Scripture dealing with redemption declares it to be the effectual, accomplished work of the Lord Jesus Christ for his elect — Limited Atonement.

You will not Let Me Fall Don Fortner

(Tune: #497 — When I can Read My Title Clear —CM)

1.    Jesus, my God, I know Your name,

To You I trust my all;

You will not put my soul to shame,

You will not let me fall.

2.    I know Your power to hold me fast,

By Your almighty grace,

And to present your saints at last,

In perfect holiness.

3.    I know, by witness from above,

In whom I have believed, —

Sealed in my SaviorÕs perfect love,

I cannot be deceived!

4.    Safe in Your hand, O let me live,

To make Your glory known;

Grace from Your fulness daily give,

And glory at Your throne.

5.    In that great day when You appear,

In majesty divine,

To bring Your blood-bought children home,

I shall in glory shine!

ÒHe shall not FailÓ

Pastor Larry Criss

ÒHe shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.Ó (Isaiah 42:4)

These are the words of God himself concerning his righteous Servant, the Lord Jesus Christ. Do you look where God looks for satisfaction, for the accomplishment of all his purposes in the salvation of his people? If you donÕt, youÕre looking in the wrong place.

ÒHeÓ

As has been pointed out, the Bible is a ÒHimÓ book. It is all about Christ. The Word of God is about God the Word that was made flesh for the saving of all those God put into his hands, all those God entrusted to him and for whom he became responsible. The Lord Jesus Christ is that one name by which sinners must be saved, or must forever perish. Christ is the only Mediator, the only way to God, the only door of entrance into grace now and glory hereafter. ItÕs that believing sinner that has the Son that has life and that will never come into condemnation. If God accepts me, it will only be because I am in his beloved Son.

ÒShall Not FailÓ

Whenever I hear anyone who claims to speak for God declare that the Christ of God only made my salvation possible and left the actual success of it up to me, I know theyÕre not talking about the Lord Jesus Christ. Whenever I hear that Christ only wants to save but must wait for the sinnerÕs willingness to be saved, I know thatÕs not the Christ of Scripture. GodÕs Word tells us the very reason he was given the name Jesus was because he would save his people from their sins, not merely attempt or offer to save them. — Nothing of the kind! Jesus, the salvation of the Lord, lived up to his name. He, by himself, purged our sins and obtained eternal redemption for us.

ÒBehold HimÓ

Would you be saved? Do you long for GodÕs forgiveness of all your sins? Then ÒBehold the Lamb of God.Ó Look not to yourself or to anything you have done for yourself, but come to Christ for everything. Come to him for faith, repentance, and all thatÕs needed to bring you such great salvation. Are you thirsty? Christ says, ÒIf any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.Ó Come poor weary, heavy laden sinner and Christ will give you rest. Rest in the arms of the only one who can speak peace to your heart because he is our peace.

ÒWell of water, ever springing, Bread of life so rich and free.

Untold wealth that never faileth, my Redeemer is to me!Ó

ÒChrist is AllÓ

Colossians 3:11

ÒChrist is all!Ó — Just three, short, one syllable words, but words of such great wealth of meaning that I never hope to expound them fully. These three words are the essence and substance of all true Christianity. ÒChrist is all!Ó God the Holy Ghost means for us to understand that in all things concerning our souls, the knowledge of God, and the understanding of his Word, in all things relating to eternity and the glory of God, ÒChrist is all

There is, in my opinion, a great need for a book on homiletics, a book on preparing sermons. SpurgeonÕs ÔLectures to My StudentsÕ and Martyn Lloyd-JonesÕ ÔPreaching and PreachersÕ are both excellent books I recommend that every preacher read. But neither really deals extensively with sermon preparation. There is a great need for a book on sermon preparation. I donÕt know of any that are really good. And I know of none that emphasize as they ought the necessity incumbent upon every man who speaks in GodÕs stead to eternity bound sinners to preach Christ incessantly.

Every Sermon

Were I to write such a book, I would emphasize that necessity. I read something many years ago written by a great old preacher by the name of Rowland Hill. He said, ÒEvery sermon ought to contain the three Rs.Ó He wasnÕt talking about reading, writing, and arithmetic, but about ruin, redemption, and regeneration. The three Rs Mr. Hill said every sermon ought to contain are ruin by the fall, redemption by the blood, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit. Every sermon preached ought to tell us what happened in the Garden. Every sermon ought to tell eternity bound sinners what happened on the cross. And every sermon ought to tell men and women how God saves sinners and what happens in a sinner when God saves him by his grace.

All to be Preached

When God the Holy Ghost tells us ÒChrist is all,Ó without question, one thing he intends for us to understand is that Christ is all to be preached (1 Corinthians 2:2). All the message of the Book of God is Jesus Christ and him crucified. Christ is the foundation of all true doctrine and the motive for all godliness. Christ is the message of all true preaching and the object of all true worship. I repeat, Christ is all to be preached for the salvation of GodÕs elect and for the comfort of his saints, all to be preached for doctrine, reproof, and correction, to inspire and to reprove, to motivate and to guide. There is no portion of Holy Scripture that has been faithfully and truly expounded or preached unless the writer or preacher has shown Christ in it.

Urgency

Every preacher ought to preach every sermon with urgency, presuming that the people to whom we preach are just a heartbeat out of hell! People who are but a heartbeat from eternity donÕt need to hear philosophy, moralisms, laws, rules, history, and denominational dogma. They need a crucified, risen, glorious, gracious, omnipotent Savior! They need the Christ of God.
