The Anointed One — Don Fortner

1. Christ, the Anointed One,

Our Prophet, Priest, and King;

Exalted on Hs Great White Throne —

Sov’reign over all things!

2. Anointed, as the Head,

Of all the chosen race:

Ordained to life, on them He sheds

The unction of His grace.

3. Anointed to atone,

For all His people’s guilt,

Now He’s a Priest upon His throne,

To bring His chosen home;

His solemn oath He’ll never break,

Nor leave His work undone!

“Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake” (Psalm 115:1). — Our Desire is that God alone would get glory for his mercy and truth’s sake. God deserves all glory, not us. And God’s people will be jealous of his name. It is painful to hear the ungodly speak against the character of our God. O God, rise up and demonstrate your grace for Christ sake, not ours. — Pastor John Chapman

An Ascription of Praise

Romans 11:36

Here is an ascription of praise to our great and glorious God by the inspired apostle, an ascription of praise joyously echoed in the heart of every sinner saved by God’s free and sovereign grace in Christ. With Paul, let us fall upon our knees before God and worship, saying, “To him be glory forever. Amen”

Set this, my brother, set this, my sister, as the goal of your heart. Let nothing set your heart beating but love to God. Let the ambition for God’s glory fire your soul. Let God’s glory be the motive of everything you do. Let God’s glory sustain your heart in every trial. Depend upon it, child of God, where self begins, sorrow begins. Your happiness and joy are secured by setting the glory of God before your heart as the motive of your life.

While we live, let us seek the glory of God. Seek his glory by showing gratitude to him. Seek his glory by implicit trust in him. Seek his glory by total surrender and complete submission to him. — “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Soon, very soon, everybody is going to see that God is all in all (1 Corinthians 15:24-28), and everybody will say, “To God be the glory!” May God the Holy Ghost give us grace to live in anticipation of that day when all things shall be seen to be to him. In that day, we will cast our crowns before him and sing, “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:11).

Would you glorify God? Would you live for the glory of God? — Trust the Lord Jesus Christ! Believe on the Son of God and glorify him forever!

“Saved in the Lord with an Everlasting Salvation”

The longer I live, the more I feel that if there were one thing left undone, if the devil were not conquered, sin not expiated, justice not satisfied, the law not honored and magnified, death not overcome, and every burden not carried, I should not have a ray of hope. I used to think I saw this as clear as the noon day thirty or forty years ago; but I saw it very differently then to what I see now, for I see and feel now that if one hair-breadth is left for me to do to merit heaven, or bring as a plea before God, I am undone for ever and ever. But on the Mount of Calvary, the Lord Jesus Christ undertook the cause of His people; and there is not a jot nor a tittle that He left undone, but, “By one offering He perfected for ever them that are sanctified” and “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Here is complete perfection, “Saved in the Lord with an everlasting salvation.”

“I Delight to do Thy Will, O My God.”

Psalm 40:8

Few questions are of greater concern to men and women who are endeavoring to honor God in their lives than this. — How can I know the will of God? Nothing is so important to the believing heart as knowing and walking in the will of God. We dare not be presumptuous in this matter. Yet, we who believe can know God’s will and walk in it, not perfectly and absolutely, but sincerely and honestly. If, by the grace of God, I sincerely seek the glory of God in all things and above all things, and live by faith in Christ, following the leadership of his Spirit and the direction of his Word, endeavoring to serve the interests of his church and kingdom for the furtherance of the gospel, I will be in the will of God. It is written, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Christ Our Example

As in all aspects of our lives as his people, our blessed Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, left us an example to follow in this. In the 40^th Psalm, we hear our Lord Jesus speaking as Jehovah’s Righteous Servant and our blessed Savior. — “I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.” We know that these words find their ultimate and perfect fulfillment in the Lord Jesus Christ, because the Holy Spirit tells us so in Hebrews 10:7-9. How we rejoice to know that Christ, the God-man, our Substitute, has fulfilled all the will of God for us! By his obedience to God in our stead, the Lord Jesus Christ obtained eternal redemption for us. His obedience to God is our righteousness. His blood is our atonement for sin. We are complete in Christ; and we are accepted in him, because he delighted to do the will of God as our Substitute.

David’s Words

Yet, these were also David’s words. They express the desire, ambition, and driving force of every believer’s heart. — “I delight to do thy will, O God.” All who are born of God bear this distinct mark of grace in the likeness of Christ. Believers in their inmost souls delight to do the will of God. Our joy and happiness is not merely in receiving good from God, but in rendering active service to God. We desire to obey and serve our heavenly Father in all things, and do his will at all times, not reluctantly, but cheerfully. God’s will is our joy and delight. More than that, we delight to see God’s will done in and by others, too. Our heart’s prayer is, “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:9-10). God the Holy Ghost has taught every believer in the world to pray with Christ, “Thy will be done.” Were it possible to gather all the desires, ambitions, aspirations, goals, and prayers of all God’s saints in heaven and earth into one expression, it would be, “Thy will be done.” Every believer delights to do the will of God!
