All Hail! Our Great Redeemer, Hail! — Don Fortner (Tune: The Doxology — LM)
1. All hail! Our great Redeemer, hail! We know Your promise cannot fail. Your chosen, ransomed ones shall come To their prepared, eternal home.
2. Your sovereign grace demands a song, From all the blest, returning throng. Satan must yield his long held prey, When Jesus sets His captives free!
3. The prince of darkness cannot keep A single chosen, ransomed sheep — They all shall come into his fold, Whom He engaged to save of old!
4. His name, His honor, and His blood, Are pledged to bring them home to God; And all His church shall come and prove Jehovah’s free unchanging love! Three More Warnings from the Master Revelation 2:18-3:22
In these two chapters, the Lord Jesus Christ identifies six conditions which, if they are not resisted and overcome, will result in apostasy and eternal ruin. If these conditions are allowed to go unchecked in any local church, it will soon wither and die. It may continue to exist in name, but that is all. Christ will withdraw the light of the gospel from it. Instead of being a house of light, it will be a den of darkness. I showed you the first three in last week’s bulletin. Here are the last three.
4. The Tolerance of False Prophets (2. 20). The church at Thyatira was charitable, diligent in service, patient in trial, and well established in the faith of the gospel. But it was tolerant of "that woman Jezebel." There was a woman in the church who claimed to be called of God and gifted as a preacher, a prophetess. Our Lord calls her "Jezebel" after Ahab's wife, because she was a deceiver. Though the Word of God clearly forbids the ordination of women and the tolerance of women as preachers and teachers in the house of God (1 Timothy 2:11-12), this church allowed this woman to teach and to seduce the people with her doctrine. The flesh says, "Don’t make a fuss about false prophets. It will only cause trouble." The world says, "Judge not! To condemn the actions of another is bigotry." Satan tempts us to be silent lest we create strife and division. But, the Word of God warns us constantly to "beware of false prophets" (Matthew 7:15). If they are not identified, exposed, and denounced, they will soon devour a congregation (Galatians 1:6-9; 2 Timothy 2:16-18).
5. Hypocrisy, Ritualism, and Lifeless Orthodoxy (3:1) We are all prone to hypocrisy. We are all great pretenders by nature. Being natural born hypocrites, there is an innate tendency in man to substitute ritualism for worship, a creed for Christ, and orthodoxy for life. — "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees" (Luke 12:1). We must take care that we live in the pursuit of true godliness, not a mere form and show of godliness. We must carefully observe the ordinances of Christ (Believers’ Baptism and the Lord's Supper), but resist the mere outward practice of religious ceremonies. We must tenaciously adhere to the doctrine of Christ, but fear that form of doctrinal purity that has no heart. All who have, practice, and hold to a form of religion without Christ are like the church at Sardis. — "Thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead!"
6. Lukewarmness, Apathy, and Indifference (3:15-16) The Laodiceans were lukewarm. Nothing is more disgusting to the palate than lukewarm coffee, lukewarm stew, lukewarm gravy, or lukewarm milk. And nothing is more disgusting to Christ than lukewarm, half-hearted, apathetic, indifferent men and women. Yet, we are ever prone to become lukewarm about the things of Christ. Every faithful pastor has seen many gradually sink into disgusting apathy. Once the gospel of the grace of God made the faces of men and women light up with joy, who now are unmoved by it. Once the story of redeeming love filled them with rapturous gratitude, and melted their hearts to tears; but now nothing moves them. They are lukewarm. Worse yet, we have all experienced this horror. What shall we do? The answer is “Return!” As often as our hearts become lukewarm, let us fly away again to Christ.

The Preeminent One Colossians 1:15-18 Pastor Eric Richards
The singular cause, unique design and distinctive purpose of all things is Christ! Christ is the cause. – All things were created by Him. Christ is the design. – He is before all things and by Him all things consist. Christ is the purpose. – All things were created for Him; for His own pleasure and glory! God has placed all things into the hands of the God-man, Mediator King for the absolute security of His church and the glory of His name. In all things, Christ has the preeminence (or superiority, supremacy, greatness, excellence, distinction, prominence, predominance, eminence, importance, prestige, stature, renown) by divine appointment. If God Almighty has approved and exalted Christ alone in all of His purpose and works in both time and eternity, how ought Christ (His person and work) be the conspicuously preeminent theme of all that we preach and believe? Of necessity, He must be our only aim in every message preached, and the one object of faith clearly set forth to poor sinners. God has preeminently blessed Christ alone in the preaching of the gospel. The Lord Jesus said, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me” (John 12:32).

Free Grace or Free Will — No Mixture Rolfe Barnard
It is impossible to preach (1) that a man is both totally and partially depraved, (2) that election is both conditional and unconditional, (3) that regenerating grace is both irresistible and resistible, (4) that redemption is both limited and unlimited, (5) that perseverance is both certain and uncertain. Nor can there be a modification of one by the other; it is impossible to blend the two. History records such efforts in the past; but despite the efforts, sovereign grace and free-willism will not mix, nor can they walk together in peace, nor can those holding either system force the other to their view (Rom 11:6; “And if by grace, then it is no more of works; otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it is of works, then it is no more grace; otherwise work is no more work”). The Grace Bulletin
