In this house of worship we spell grace “T.U.L.I.P.” — Total Depravity — Unconditional Election — Limited Atonement — Irresistible Grace — Perseverance of the Saints. No doctrine will be received or tolerated that is not in complete agreement with these plain, unquestionable revelations of the Gospel.

Our Sovereign God Maintains His Universal ThroneDon Fortner

(Tune: #39 — This is My Father’s World — SMD)

  1. Our sov’reign God maintains His universal throne;

In heav’n, and earth, and hell, He reigns, and makes His wonders known!

His counsels and decrees, firmer than mountains stand;

He will perform whate’er He please; and none can stay his hand!

  1. All things His will controls; and His all-wise decree

Has fixed the destinies of all in matchless sov’reignty. —

Jacob by grace He saved, and gives no reason why;

But Esau’s heart He left depraved. — And who shall dare reply?

  1. What if the Potter takes part of a lump of clay,

And for Himself a vessel makes and casts the rest away?

Who shall resist His will or say, “What doest Thou?”

Jehovah is the Sov’reign still; and all to Him must bow!

  1. My soul, bow and adore the Lord in all His ways;

His sov’reignty none can explore; but I will trust His grace!

For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things:

To Whom be glory evermore! Amen! Amen! Amen!

“I Do Not Frustrate the Grace of God”
Pastor Clay Curtis

When people turn to the law for righteousness they frustrate the grace of God and deny Christ and all that Christ accomplished. — “If righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain” (Galatians 2:21). Not only is that so, but those who seek righteousness by the law violate the very law they claim to keep.

Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?” (Galatians 4.21) The law says, “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.” — Yet, if you seek justification by law then you make law your god.

The law says, “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image.” — But, when you seek justification by law then you make law your idol.

The law says, “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.” — When you seek justification by law, calling yourself a Christian, you take Christ’s name in vain.

The law says, “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” — But you who seek justification by law break the Sabbath, rejecting Christ who is the believer’s Sabbath, refusing to rest in Him.

The law says, “Honour thy father and thy mother.” — But when you seek justification by law, you willfully disobey your heavenly Father, refusing him the honor and glory due unto his holy name.

The law says, “Thou shalt not kill.” — But all who seek justification by law cry out against Christ, “Crucify Him! Crucify Him!

The law says, “Thou shalt not commit adultery.” — But he who goes to the law for righteousness plays the harlot and goes whoring after another god.

The law says, “Thou shalt not steal.” — Yet, all who go to the law for justification would rob God of His glory.

The law says, “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” — But when you boast of your obedience to the law you call God a liar. He declares, “There is none righteous. No, not one. There is none that doeth good.

The law says, “Thou shalt not covet thou thy neighbors house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife…nor anything that is thy neighbor’s.” — But when you go to the law for righteousness you seek for yourself the honor that belongs to God alone. When you teach others to do so, you seek to steal God’s bride (His church), and would have her be married to another.

“When She Heard of Jesus”

Mark 5 25-27

     The story here preserved in scripture is that of a certain woman.  Every recipient of Gods sovereign grace is chosen of Him and precious.  The importance of what Jesus Christ was going about to do; the significance of the hour is overwhelming.  The hour of eternity, the hour for which He had come, and the hour toward which His whole life had been ordained was upon Him.  Yet in the midst of unspeakable glory was a providence that led a poor sinner to touch Him.  Oh, how ashamed I am to have ever questioned the providence of God that led me to hear of Him, and that will lead others to do the same.                                                                        — Pastor Darvin Pruitt

The Free Obedience of Christ

Isaiah 50:5-7 and John 10:16-18

Let me show you three things from these words which fell from Him of whom it is written, “grace is poured into Thy lips.”

The Commandment of the Father

The Lord Jesus Christ speaks of Himself here not as the eternal Son of God, but as the Good Shepherd, the Mediator, the Surety of His people. He says, “This commandment have I received of My Father.” With those words He declares that His death as our Substitute was arranged by God before the world began (Psalm 40:7; Hebrews 10:7-10). The death of Christ was not accomplished by the arrangement of men or by the arrangement of hell, but by the arrangement of the Triune God (Acts 2:23; 1 Peter 1:18-20). The death of Christ at Calvary was accomplished by the arrangement of an eternal covenant, sovereign providence, and infinite love (John 3:16; Romans 5:6-8).

The Obedience of Christ

The Lord Jesus Christ laid down His life voluntarily, as an act of free obedience to His Father. No man forced Him to die. God the Father did not compel Him to die or take His life from him. Oh, No! Our Savior died voluntarily, by His own will. “He poured out His soul unto death!” It is true, as we have seen, “it pleased the Father to bruise Him.” The Father cried, “Awake, O sword, against the Man that is My Fellow. Smite the Shepherd!” Yet Christ took the cup of wrath in His own hands. The Son of God fell willingly upon the sword of justice. Our Savior died by His own will! The Son of God laid down His life for the satisfaction of Divine justice as the Substitute for chosen sinners, for the glory of God, because of His great love for His elect. Moreover, He laid down His life that He might take it again by His own resurrection power and reign forever as our Redeemer-King (Romans14:9; Philippians2:5-11).

The Father’s Love for His Son

Our Savior says, “Therefore doth My Father love Me, because I lay down My life.” I know of nothing in heaven or earth so sweet to meditate upon and so impossible to preach about as the Father’s love for His darling, dying Son. Hear it again. “Therefore doth my Father love Me, because I lay down My life.” God Himself never saw anything in all the world so lovely, so infinitely worthy of His love, admiration, and honor as the death of His dear Son upon the cursed tree for His people. Herein is love!” Because of this great act of love, because of this great act of Christ’s free obedience to the Father as our Surety, the Father has given His Son everything! — Read Isaiah 53:4-12; John 3:35; 17:2.

The only way of access to God is Christ. Our only worthiness of the Father’s love and approval is Christ (John 17:22-26). Oh, how the Triune God loves us! The Father gave His Son to die for us! The Son laid down His life for us. The Spirit now sprinkles us with the blood of Christ and declares us “Redeemed.” Child of God, gaze steadfastly upon your crucified Redeemer and realize that “Ye are not your own. For ye are bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
