Through Samaria He Must Go John Kent

(Tune: #361 — Sweet Hour of Prayer — LMD)

1.    Once as the Friend of sinners dear, a man of sorrows sojourned here;

Eternal love ordained it so, that through Samaria He must go.

But what could His dear feet incline, unless compelled by love divine,

From whence salvationÕs blessings flow, that He must through Samaria go?

2.    There wandÕring from the fold of God, He saw the purchase of His blood;

And o'er this wretch to lust a slave, did sovereign grace her banner wave.

Herein discriminating grace shone with a bright, refulgent blaze:

While dead in sin ten thousands lie, grace brought this rebel harlot nigh!

3.    Roused from her fond, delusive dream, as IsraelÕs God she worshipped Him,

Drank of that living water pure, that shall to endless years endure.

This object of eternal love, ordained to fill a throne above,

Shall in the gospel annals shine, and prove election all divine.

4.    Jesus our Shepherd, God and King, Thy guardian care and love we sing;

And hail that grace both rich and free, that brings Thy wand'ring sheep to thee.

Glory to God, till this takes place, bulwarks of fire and walls of grace,

Keep all His blood bought flock secure, till calling proves election sure!

Worthless Morality Preaching

The morality-preaching that passes for the gospel in our day is accepted partly because the world has become so immoral in our pursuit of happiness that parents think messages against sexual misconduct are better for their children than messages of how Christ has put away the sin of his people. Fact is the reason we are so immoral and in need of common morality is because we've been so long without the unapologetic preaching of Christ and him crucified. We can never expect morality in the pew if we immorally prostitute the gospel of God's free grace in Christ Jesus from the pulpit.                                              — Pastor Clay Curtis

Effectual Atonement, or No Atonement

"Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."                                                                                                                                                              Isaiah 53:10-12

      What happened at Calvary? Did the Lord Jesus Christ redeem us from all iniquity; or did he merely make us redeemable? Did he actually put away our sins; or did he merely make it possible for our sins to be put away? Did the Lamb of God reconcile us to God; or did he merely make us reconcilable? Did he justify his people; or did he simply make it possible for them to be justified? Did he effectually secure the salvation of those for whom he died; or did he only make salvation a possibility for them? Did the incarnate Son of God actually make atonement for sin by the shedding of his blood; or did he just make a stab at it? Either the Son of God made an effectual atonement for the sins of his people, or he made no atonement at all.

      Hear the Word of God as it was spoken by the mouth of his prophet Isaiah. Isaiah 53:10-12 is a true, divinely inspired description of the sin-atoning sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ and its results. Read every word with thoughtful reverence, and learn the Bible doctrine of the atonement.

ÒHe shall be satisfied!Ó

GodÕs prophet declares, ÒHe shall be satisfied!Ó How I love this word of promise from our God! Let me state it as emphatically as I possibly can. ÒHe,Ó the Son of God, our glorious Substitute, our great Sin Offering, our divine Savior, the one who died in our place at Calvary, Òshall,Ó without a doubt, without the possibility of hindrance, most assuredly, Òbe satisfied,Ó fully, completely, eternally satisfied! He was satisfied with the terms of redemption proposed to him as our Surety in the covenant of grace before the world was made. He is satisfied with his purchased possession, his bride the Church. He is satisfied with himself as a ransom price for the satisfaction of justice. And he shall be satisfied with us, his redeemed ones.

ÒHe shall not fail!Ó

This is an inspired declaration of complete, effectual redemption accomplished by JehovahÕs Righteous Servant, our Substitute and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. ÒHe shall not fail!Ó The Son of God can never be frustrated in his pur-

pose, defeated in his design, or hindered in his work. Christ was not conquered at Calvary. He conquered! ÒHe shall see of the travail of his soul and shall be satisfied!Ó The cross of our Lord Jesus Christ shall never be discovered a miscarriage. The Lion of the tribe of Judah must prevail. Isaiah prophesied of, and the Word of God universally teaches the infallible efficacy of ChristÕs atonement. I want you to see from the Word of God the glorious, absolute, saving efficacy of ChristÕs atonement.

Prophets of Baal

The subject matter before us is a matter of utmost concern. The one thing that characterizes every messenger of Satan is a denial of the efficacy of ChristÕs atonement. The one point of doctrine upon which all false prophets are agreed is this: — They all deny that every soul for whom Christ died shall be saved. They may give lip service to Bible doctrine and Bible terms; but they deny the very foundation of the gospel, which is substitution.

      These modern day prophets of Baal preach a redemption that redeems no one, an atonement that atones for nothing, and a salvation that saves no one. They preach possibility redemption, possibility atonement, possibility grace, and possibility salvation. The Word of God teaches that every sinner for whom Christ died shall, upon the grounds of justice satisfied, be saved.

Our Comfort and Our Confidence

Richard Sibbes

1577-1635

This is our comfort and our confidence, that God accepts us, because he accepts his Beloved; and when he shall cease to love Christ, he shall cease to love the members of Christ. They and Christ make one mystical Christ. This is our comfort in dejection for sin. We are so and so indeed, but Christ is the chosen Servant of God, in whom he delighteth, and delights in us in him. It is no matter what we are in ourselves, but what we are in Christ when we are once in him and continue in him. God loves us with that inseparable love wherewith he loves his own Son. Therefore St Paul triumphs, Romans 8:35, ÒWhat shall separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus?Ó This love, it is founded in Christ, Òtherefore neither things present, nor things to come (as he goes on there gloriously), shall be able to separate us.Ó You see what a wondrous confidence and comfort we have hence, if we labor to be in Christ, that then God loves and delights in us, because he loves and delights in Christ Jesus.
