YOU'RE NOT THAT IMPORTANT

Churches and religious leaders like to flatter human flesh and make proud sinners, whose hearts are full of hatred to God (Rom. 8:7), feel important. One example of this flattery is the following cliche that often appears on church signs, in bulletins and religious papers.

"`U' are important! We can't spell...

Church without `U'.

Sunday without `U'.

Budget without `U'.

Success without `U'.

We need `U'!"

I don't know much about budgets or success, but I doubt YOU would be nearly so important were it not for the budgets and ambitions of men for success. This I do know - GOD SPELLED CHURCH FOR 2000 YEARS WITHOUT YOU, AND A WHOLE LOT OF SUNDAYS HAVE BEEN SPELLED WITHOUT YOU! The cause of God does not depend on you. You're not that important. Neither am I. What kind of god depends on men? The fact is, we are nothing! We have nothing God needs. We can do nothing God will accept. If we come to nothing, nothing will be lost.

God's preachers do not flatter human flesh. They expose it! God will never allow the flesh to glory in his presence (I Cor. 1:26-31). When God makes himself known to sinners in Christ, he causes them to glory in his blood, his righteousness, and his grace (Phil. 3:3). Only when you are nothing will Christ be everything to you!
