YOUR PASTOR'S PRAYER FOR THE NEW YEAR

I do not pretend to be a modern day Moses, though I do greatly desire to follow his example as a faithful servant of God and of his people. But I do desire the same things in my day for the glory of God and for the good of his people that Moses desired in his day. His prayer is my prayer (Ex. 33:13-18).

"SHOW ME THY WAY." In all things, I pray that God will graciously show me his will and give me grace to walk in his will. Nothing is more important to any believer than the will of God. But for those who are public preachers, pastors and leaders in the church of God, there is an even greater responsibility to seek the will of God so that they may lead God's people in God's way. I pray that God will not leave me to my way, or allow me to seek and follow the way of his people, but rather that he will show me his way. If I am to lead the church of God to do the work of God for the glory of God, I must be led of God in his way.

"CONSIDER THAT THIS NATION IS THY PEOPLE." This church belongs to God. This assembly is made up of the people of God: men and women who are chosen, redeemed, and called by his grace. I seek the mercy of God upon you; and the only basis of my plea is the mercy of God toward you. We are no better than other men, but we are God's people. And God will protect, preserve, and provide for us for his own glory.

"IF THY PRESENCE GO NOT WITH ME, CARRY US NOT UP HENCE." It appears that there is much for us to do and that many doors of opportunity are being opened for us to serve this generation for the glory of God. There is much we would like to do in the coming year for Christ. But I pray that God will bring my life and ministry to an end this day rather than leave me to myself. If left to myself, I would surely dishonor him and harm, rather than serve, the interest of Christ's kingdom.

"I BESEECH THEE, SHOW ME THY GLORY." As the dawn of the new year begins, may God be pleased to show me his glory in Christ, and allow me throughout the year to show you his glory in Christ and in the gospel of his grace.
