When God brings judgment
upon the ungodly, it is for his name's sake (Lev. 10:1-3). When God saves
sinners, he saves them for his name's sake (Ps. 106:8). When God has mercy upon
his people, whatever form his mercy takes, he shows mercy for his name's sake
(Isa. 48:9-11). Whatever God does, or allows to be done, in his creation is for
the praise, and honor, and glory of his name (Rom.
The
Lord our God jealously guards the honor and the glory of his name. His own
glory is the first concern of his heart. Is it not most reasonable that his
glory should be the first concern of our hearts as well? He chose us, redeemed
us, called us, and preserves us by his grace, for the praise of the glory of
his grace. Dare we rob him of that glory which is due unto him? In all things,
let this be our one great desire - "Father, glorify Thy name."
