"WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES DOES YOUR CHURCH HAVE?"

When people go around "church shopping", as they often do, they seldom ask any questions about doctrine. I suppose they presume that all churches gave up doctrinal distinction long ago; and for the most part they would be correct in such a presumption. But one question they almost always ask is - "What kind of activities does your church have?" Most preachers and most churches realize that people like activity. They like to be entertained. They like to do something. So the preacher and churches gladly comply. Whatever it takes to draw a crowd and keep people happy, they will do. Ball teams, puppet shows, movies, social programs for every ages and concerts are the things which the church of the twentieth century provides for the activity of its members. In the New Testament they had another kind of activity (Acts 2:41-47). They continued in the apostle's doctrine, the fellowship of the saints, the observance of the Lord's Supper, unity of the Spirit, joy, and praise to God. "And the Lord added unto the church daily such as should be saved." I like these activities much better. Don't you?
