Recently, a friend told me that
the church he attends passed a resolution that no one would be allowed to preach
in their pulpit unless he was a premillenialist. I know other churches where
preachers are required to meet one insignificant doctrinal criterion or
another. Satan must celebrate a holiday in hell each time he succeeds in
steering a church's "steering committee" away from the one issue of
importance, the gospel of Christ.
It would be well if every local
church would solemnly resolve to preach the gospel of God's pure, free,
sovereign grace, and leave it to man who have no interest in the gospel to
fight other issues. God helping us, in this place, we will stick to those
things that are clearly revealed in the Word of God and profitable to the souls
of men. Concerning the vital issues of gospel truth, we will not give one inch,
or compromise in the least degree.
1. We believe that God is
absolutely, totally, and universally sovereign - (Ps. 115:3; 135:6).
2. We submit to the Bible, the
inspired Word of God as our only rule of faith and practice - (Isa. 8:20; I1
Tim. 3:16-17).
3. We believe that man is
totally depraved, fallen, guilty, sinful, helpless, and an object of God's just
wrath by nature - (Eph. 2:1-4).
4. We believe that God chose a
people for himself in eternal election and predestinated them to eternal glory
as the objects of his sovereign grace - (Rom.
5. We believe that Christ
effectually accomplished the redemption of God's elect by his sin-atoning
sacrifice - (Heb.
6. We believe that God the Holy
Spirit effectually regenerates and calls sinners to Christ by his irresistible
grace - (Eph.
7. We believe that all true
believers in Christ persevere in the faith, being preserved in life by the
grace of God - (John
