UNDER THE BLOOD, BUT WRITTEN IN
THE BOOK
The sins of God's saints are all
under the blood of Christ, entirely forgiven by God. Yet, the most glaring sins
of God's most eminent servants are plainly written in the Bible for all men to
read. Noah, who found grace in the eyes of the Lord, was found in a drunken
stupor. Abraham, the friend of God, gave his wife to Abimelech. Lot,
God's righteous servant, was reduced to incest in his drunkenness. David, the
man after God's own heart, committed adultery and murder. Peter, the bold
defender of the faith, trembled and denied the Lord for fear of a child. The
list could go on at great length. Why were these things written? They were not
written merely to mar the reputations of good men. They were not written to excuse
sin. These sad events in the lives of God's beloved saints have been recorded
in the Word of God to teach us two things: "THAT WHICH IS BORN OF FLESH
IS FLESH"; and "SALVATION IS OF THE LORD." The best
men are only men at best. We have no righteousness of our own. The only
righteousness we have is that which God gives us in Christ. Thank God, he does
not impute sin, but only righteousness to his own elect.
