This Is Worth A Thought Or Two.

The Puritan, John Owen, argued irrefutably that either Christ died for all the sins of all men, all the sins of some men, or some of the sins of all men. If he died for some of the sins of all men, then all must be lost, because all have some sins for which they must answer before God. If he died for all the sins of some men, as the Scriptures everywhere affirm, then all those for whom he died (God’s elect) shall be saved because justice has been satisfied for all their sins by his blood. If he died for all the sins of all men, then why do some yet perish under the wrath of God? You answer, “Because of unbelief.” I ask, Is this unbelief sin, or is it not? If it be (sin), then Christ suffered the punishment due unto it, or he did not. If he did, why must that hinder them more than their other sins for which he died? If he did not, he did not die for all their sins.”
