THE HOLY TRINITY

All true Christians are Trinitarians. That means, we worship the one true and living God in the trinity, or tri-unity of his holy Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Lord our God is one God (Deut. 6:4). Yet, this one great and glorious God subsists in three distinct, but equal divine Persons (I John 5:7). And each of the divine Persons is actively engaged in the salvation of God's elect.

GOD THE FATHER PLANNED the salvation of his people. In eternity, before the world began God chose to save a people, devised the means of saving them, determined whom he would save, and predestinated all things necessary for the accomplishment of their salvation (Eph. 1:3-6).

GOD THE SON PURCHASED the salvation of all his people at Calvary by blood atonement (Eph. 1:7-12). The Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, assumed human nature, lived as our Representative, and died as our Substitute. Satisfying divine justice, he both ransomed all God's elect out from under the curse of the law and obtained eternal redemption for them.

GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT PERFORMS salvation in chosen, redeemed sinners by the irresistible power of his grace (Eph. 1:13-14). He gives dead sinners life and faith in Christ, and seals (preserves and keeps) them in a state of grace until they come into the possession of heaven's glory.

This salvation by the triune God is accomplished for us and in us to the praise of the glory of his grace.
