The way to eternal life is simple and clear:
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved." But
faith in Christ involves much more than a mere acknowledgement of the historic
facts and doctrinal truths of the gospel. It involves repentance and
conversion. Where there is faith in Christ, there is a heart broken over sin,
and renewed by the grace of God. The believer's heart has undergone a radical
change. He has a new mind, new motives, and a new Master. Faith in Christ also
involves surrender to him as Lord. Faith is submissive and obedient to Christ.
An unconquered, rebellious heart is an unbelieving heart. In preaching the
gospel, we call upon men to bow down in surrender to Christ as Lord. Until a
man bows to Christ he will not trust Christ.
