THE UNITY OF THE SCRIPTURES
The Old Testament and the New Testament together is
the Word of God. The Old Testament must not be regarded with one bit less
reverence and importance than the New. They must remain bound together, for
they are one revelation of the mind and will of God. Cursed is the man who
tries to rend asunder the seamless garment of Holy Scripture. The New Testament
does not replace the Old. It simply completes it. Though the legal ceremonies
and statues of the Mosaic dispensation are no longer binding upon us, because
they are fulfilled by Christ and we are not under the law but under grace, yet,
the Old Testament has not lost its authority and comfort for us. In fact, the
Old Testament is even more precious to us than ever, because we
who believe, read it and understand it in the light of the New.
