THE SATISFACTION OF CHRIST

We have all heard and read statements about the satisfactory death of Christ and the fact that he would, by virtue of his shed blood, see of the travail of his soul and be satisfied. It may be that you have often wondered exactly what our Lord satisfied in his atoning sacrifice at Calvary.

1.   HE SATISFIED THE DECREE OF HIS FATHER (Acts 2:23, 4:28),

All of God's eternal decrees were centered in the death of his Son as the Substitute for his people at Calvary. All the promises of God were conditioned upon the sacrifice of Christ·

2.   HE SATISFIED THE DEMANDS OF THE LAW (Gal 3:13)

The law demanded death upon the sinner. So Christ took our sins and made them his very own. Then he gave himself up to suffer the law's infinite demands of punishment in our place.

3.       HE SATISFIED THE DEBTS OF HIS PEOPLE (Matt. 20:28)

Our Lord said a ransom price be the offended justice of God for us. The price was the perfection of his righteous life and the last drop of his life's blood. And, at that moment, our debt was cancelled! Never can God charge those with sin for whom the Son or God shed his blood. The debt is paid in full:

4.   HE SATISFIED THE DESIRE OF HIS OWN SOUL (Is. 53:11)

He desired for himself a people redeemed from every nation, kindred, tribe, and tongue. And he shall have them. The Father promised, him his seed. He labored in travail of soul at the cross to secure the birth of his own. He paid the price. And he shall not, he cannot be disappointed in the end. All whom he purchased shall be with him in glory. The cross of Christ shall never be discovered a miscarriage. He shall be satisfied!
