THE MERE ACCEPTANCE OF HISTORICAL FACTS IS NOT THE FAITH OF THE GOSPEL!

I frequently hear men say that a man is preaching the gospel, simply because he preaches the historical facts of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Many think that they are saved because they have mentally accepted these facts. If that be the case, Campbellites, Catholics, Russellites, and Mormons must all be accepted as believers; and their spokesmen must be accepted as gospel preachers!

But preaching the gospel, and believing the gospel involves much more than the mere mental acceptance of certain historical facts about Christ. To preach the gospel is to declare not only that Christ died and rose again, but also to declare WHO Christ is, HOW he died, WHAT he accomplished in his death, and WHERE he is now. To believe the gospel is to believe on Christ as he is revealed in Holy Scripture. It is to bow to Christ, the Sovereign Lord, as your Prophet, Priest, and King, resting your soul upon him alone.
