THE IMPUTATION
OF SIN
David describes for us the blessedness of that man
who is saved by the grace of God in these words, "Blessed is the man to
whom the Lord will not impute sin" (Rom.
4:8). This is the great foundational blessing of the covenant of grace in
Christ. This is the surest of all "the sure mercies of David". God in
heaven has imputed the sin of all his elect to Christ, requiring of his Son
payment for our sin, God's holiness, his law, and his justice have been fully
satisfied with the payment which Christ made at Calvary -
HIS OWN LIFE'S BLOOD. Because God imputed our sins to his Son, he will not,
and in justice he cannot, impute our sins to us. That is to say, God will never
charge his people with sin, will never punish us for sin, and will never
require us to suffer anything because of our sin. GOD WILL NOT LAY SIN TO
OUR ACCOUNT!
