The Holy Spirit dispenses
many spiritual gifts to the people of God. Some have the gift of wisdom, some
the gift of helps, and some the gift of preaching. In the apostolic days some
in the church were blessed with the gift of tongues, some with the gift of
healing, and some with the gift of miracles. But there is one gift which is to
be preferred above all others. Paul wrote, "Covet earnestly the best
gifts;" and then he tells us what the best gift of all is - "The
greatest of these is LOVE!" Love is the strongest, most beneficial, most
easily understood, most comforting, and most enduring of all gifts. And without
LOVE all others are vain.
