SUBSTITUTION

The gospel of God's grace and glory is the gospel of substitutionary redemption. It is the gospel that proclaims the power and efficacy of the Lord Jesus Christ as the Substitute of his people. A substitute is one who stands in the place of another. When does Jesus Christ stand as the Substitute of his people in their place?

1.             Christ stood as our Substitute in Eternity in the Covenant of Grace (Eph. 1:3-6; II Tim. 1:9).

2.             Christ stood as our Substitute in the Mind of God throughout the ages of the Old Testament (Isa. 53).

3              Christ stood as our Substitute when he Lived In This World, Establishing Perfect Righteousness as a Man (Rom. 10:34).

4. Christ stood as our Substitute when he Died at Calvary, Bearing Our Sins and Paying Our Debt to God's holy law (II Cor. 5:21).

5.             Christ stands as our Substitute in Glory Now (Heb. 6:20).

6              Christ will stand as our Substitute in the Day of Judgment (I John 2:1-2).

7.             Christ will stand as our Substitute throughout all Eternity (Rev. 5:9-10).

The only hope any sinner has of ever standing before God with acceptance is if he stands in the Substitute God has appointed, Jesus Christ. And those who stand before God by faith in Christ are now and shall for ever be accepted.
