Pray For God’s Servants

Those men who preach the gospel to you, who labor in the work

of the gospel for the souls of men and the glory of Christ face distinct temptations and dangers unique to them. Being in the frontlines of the battle for God’s glory and truth, they are men against whom Satan is fiercely set. As they labor for you, pray for you, and minister to you, do not fail to pray for them. Here are seven dangers every preacher faces:

1. Preaching for success, rather than preaching for the glory of God.

2. Self-confidence and self-sufficiency.

3. The neglect of his own soul, while attempting to minister to the souls of others.

4. An intellectual familiarity with the gospel, without experiencing the power of the gospel for himself.

5. Preaching either more or less than God has revealed.

6. Preaching a lifeless form of doctrine, rather than proclaiming the living Word of the living God.

7. Falling into the habit of preaching about the gospel, rather than directly preaching the gospel.
