With the Apostle Paul, I am determined to preach nothing else but
Jesus Christ and him crucified. I have nothing else to
preach; and I desire nothing else. But the question is often asked, “Is this
preaching the whole counsel of God?”
I
emphatically insist that this alone is! We delight to preach all the doctrines
of the Bible. But we preach all doctrine in the light of Christ crucified. The
doctrines of the Bible are the garments of our Lord. When the doctrines are
full of Christ they are beautiful. But when they are isolated from him they are
empty. Our love is not for the doctrine, but for the Savior.
Mark
this down, my friend, any doctrine of Holy Scripture that is not preached and
understood in the light of the cross is wrongfully preached and misunderstood.
The cross of Christ is the key which opens for us the treasure chest of Divine
Revelation.
