Our Fellowship
“Truly our
fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ” (I John 1:3). We
often speak of fellowship with one another and the fellowship of the saints.
But we should always remember that OUR FELLOWSHIP WITH EACH OTHER ARISES FROM,
AND IS DEPENDENT UPON, OUR FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD.
This word,
fellowship, is so meaningful and suggestive that it is almost impossible to
give it a full and complete translation. Fellowship here denotes our common
participation in the grace of God, the salvation of Christ, and the indwelling
of the Holy Spirit. These things are the birthright of every child of God. Here
John tells us that we are partakers, partners, and companions of the eternal
God through the mediation of his Son Jesus Christ!
Between us
and the eternal God, there is an agreement of heart, a communion of spirit, a
union of purpose, and fulness of joy. Being one with Jesus Christ, by faith, we
are one with God Almighty! This fellowship is the saving union of all true
believers with Christ. Knowing this blessed fellowship, we declare the gospel
unto the perishing sons of men, that they may be united to God in the
fellowship of faith.
