OUR LORD’S COMMISSION FOR 1982

On this first Sunday of the New Year we have much for which to rejoice and give thanks. God's blessings upon us, as individuals and as a church, have been abundant on every hand. But there is mush which ought to make us weep. We have, as yet, accomplished little for the increase of Christ's kingdom. I am afraid that we become complacent and indifferent about men going to hell! Can we be satisfied to gather in our house of worship Sunday after Sunday to sing our hymns and rehearse our doctrines, while the city around us is perishing?

Our Savior has given us a commission. We are here upon this earth, in this place, for only one purpose. There is only one purpose for the existence of this church in 1982. It is that we may faithfully perform the work committed to us by our risen Lord - "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." (Mk. 16:15-16).

Let us put our shoulder to the work. We cannot save sinners. But we can point them to the Savior. Together, let us seek opportunities to spread the gospel. Let us, one and all, become actively engaged in the sweet and satisfying work of evangelism. As we go through this world, day by day, we have the responsibility of bearing witness to Christ before men. God has given us the gospel of his glory and grace, not to hide, but to proclaim to all men everywhere. Let us now do it.
