Recently a friend ask me what I thought about such
movies as this. He had been to see the first movie, and he was impressed with
the way it portrayed God's personal character.
All who know the grace of God delight in the knowledge that he is person. He personally created this world. He has a personal
interest in all the affairs of the world. Indeed, he personally rules all the
events of the world. We communicate with our Father in a personal, family way.
And he personally communicates with us.
But the idea of
bringing the Almighty down to a level equal with man is blasphemous! Can God be
portrayed by a George Burns, a tottering old man? I am afraid that the god who
is preached and worshipped by this religious generation could be. But not the
God of Heaven!
I am reminded of Isaiah's bold challenge - "To
whom will ye liken God?" Who is equal? The nations are as a drop in the
bucket before him. Before him men are but grasshoppers. He sits upon the circle
of the earth. He stretches out the heavens as a curtain, and spreads them out
as a tent to dwell in.
Yes, we rejoice to know that God is personal. He
personally adopted us, redeemed us, and gave us life. But let us never forget
that he is majestic. Brethren, behold your God! Here is a God to be worshipped.
