LOOKING TO CHRIST

Are you lost? Are you guilty? Are you condemned by God's holy law? Are you perishing with the plague of sin in your heart? Would you be saved? This is the one thing you must do - YOU MUST LOOK TO CHRIST. He says, "Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else" (Isa. 45:22). It will do you no good to look to yourself. Look away from yourself to Christ. It will do you no good to look to man, religious leaders, the church, or even doctrinal truth. There is no salvation here. Look away from all these things, and look to Christ alone. Those Israelites in the wilderness (Num. 21:6-9) were not saved by looking at their wounds. They were not saved by looking to Moses. They were not saved by looking at the pole Moses held in his hands. They were saved by looking to that brazen serpent. Even so, we are saved by looking to Christ.

SALVATION COMES TO A MAN'S HEART BY LOOKING TO CHRIST. Our Lord said, "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3: 14-15). To look to Christ is to acknowledge that he alone can save you. To look to Christ is to believe that he will save you. To look to Christ is to trust him alone, his righteousness and his blood for your whole salvation.

SALVATION IS CONSTANTLY LOOKING TO CHRIST FOR ALL THINGS. We who believe run the race that is set before us by faith, "Looking Unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith" (Heb. 12:2). We look to Christ for a continual supply of grace. We look to Christ alone, continually, for our acceptance with God. We look to him as our Advocate, our Righteousness, and our Propitiation. We never cease to be poor sinners, looking to Christ. We never hope for acceptance with God upon any grounds other than Christ.

SALVATION IS COMPLETE WHEN WE SHALL LOOK TO CHRIST AND SEE HIM AS HE IS. "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is" (I John 3:2). It is written of all God's elect, all who were redeemed by Christ and regenerated by the Holy Spirit, it is written of every sinner who looks to Christ - "They shall see his face" (Rev. 22:4). This is heaven! This is glory! This is eternal bliss! We shall see the Lord Jesus Christ himself, face to face! God help you to look, both now and forever. "THERE IS LIFE FOR A LOOK AT THE CRUCIFIED ONE!"
