How Are Men Converted?
Before anyone is converted, he must hear the gospel. "Faith
cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." No one will
ever believe on Christ until he hears the gospel of Christ. Preaching the
gospel must, therefore, be a paramount concern to the church. It is the
pastor's job to pray and study, seeking a message from God and grace to deliver
it. But it is not enough for the pastor to preach. You must see to it that men
hear the message. Invite men to come and hear the gospel. Distribute our tapes
and bulletins widely. And give generously to every effort of the church to
promote the gospel. Let us see to it that everything we do as a church is
designed to promote the preaching of the gospel. So that those around us might
hear the message of Christ crucified.
But preaching and hearing is not enough. God alone can reveal Christ in
the hearts of men, and give them faith. So let us pray for the revelation of
his grace and power for the conversion of sinners.
