Fallen Saints, Or Obstinate Rebels?

God’s saints, knowing themselves to be vile sinners, prone to every manner of ungodliness by nature, find great comfort and encouragement in God’s immutable love, unchangeable mercy, invariable grace, and unalterable faithfulness displayed in his dealings with fallen saints in Scripture. Lot, David, and Peter are vivid reminders of both the weakness of our nature and the greatness of God’s grace in Christ.

However, it is only the hypocrite who uses the sins of others to excuse their own, and seeks refuge and comfort in the fact that God’s saints are sinners still. Our consolation is not in the sins of others, but in God’s faithful, unchanging, steadfast mercy, love, and grace in Christ. The falls of God’s saints, though they may come one upon the heels of another, (We are just weak, sinful flesh!), and the chosen course of wickedness by an obstinate rebel are incomparable with one another. If you choose to live in defiance of God you do not know God. Any refuge you may have is a refuge of lies.
