Love is the fulfillment of the law. And the apostle
Paul makes it clear that this love is more than a mere sentimental slogan. It
is a very practical and helpful grace of the Spirit. Here is love in action
-"Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill
the law of Christ." (Gal. 6:2).
There are some in our assembly who carry heavy
burdens upon their hearts. They are our brothers and sisters in Christ. We
profess to love them. Let us be sure that we live up to our profession, and
bear their burdens with sincerity. Bear their burdens with them. Put
your shoulder next to theirs, and help them carry the load. True love is a
unifying grace. We become one with those we love to such a degree that their
joys become our joys and their sorrows our sorrows. Bear their burdens for
them to the Lord. Call your brother's name before the Lord in prayer.
Spread his case before the Lord. In real intercessory prayer you put yourself
in the position of the one for whom you are praying. The need of your brother
becomes your need. "Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my
daughter (My Brother-My Sister) is grievously vexed." (Mt. 15:22). And
bear their burdens for Christ's sake. Follow the example of Christ and show
forth that love which you have experienced from him. "Be ye followers of
God as dear children: And walk in love as Christ also hath loved us."
(Eph. 5:1-2), Let us who know the love of Christ be
kind one to another, tenderhearted, and gentle, bearing one another's burdens.
