"BROTHER, LEAD US IN
PRAYER."
This matter of public prayer
is a vital part of public worship. The man who is asked to lead the
congregation in prayer has an awesome responsibility to perform. He must bring
the congregation into the presence of God! He must speak to God as the
representative of the church! Therefore, we must use discretion in asking a man
to pray in public. All men should pray; but not all men should lead the saints
in public prayer. If you are called upon to pray publicly, do
not take it lightly. Remember, you are leading others; therefore, speak
plainly and clearly. Also remember that you are praying; therefore, let your
prayer be fervent and spiritual. Let your prayer be taken up with the matter at
hand - WORSHIP. Confess our weakness and sin as a congregation. Plead
for God's mercy. Pray for the preacher. Seek the presence and power of the
Spirit. Above all seek the glory of Christ.
