We are told that a "carnal
Christian" is a person who believes in Jesus, but has never surrendered to
him, accepting him as Lord. He believes in the death, burial, and resurrection
of Christ; but in his heart he does not acknowledge Christ as Lord. Are you a
"carnal Christian"? If so you are a Christian in name only, you are
yet lost, dead in trespasses and in sins. Your religious name and profession
are of no value. Paul says that you are a man without hope in Christ, "For
to be carnally minded is death" (Rom. 8:6). Where there is true, saving
faith in Christ there is a willing surrender of the heart to Christ as Lord. I
do not mean that true faith produces a doctrinal acknowledgement of Christ's
Lordship. You may have that and still be lost. True faith produces, or I should
say, is produced by a heart acknowledgement of Christ as Lord.
