A Thought For Your Christmas GATHERING
This week your families will
gather to celebrate Christmas. Your children and grandchildren will be coming
home for the holidays. As your pastor, I hope
that each of you will have a delightful time together. Perhaps you can
make your family's Christmas gathering both enjoyable and spiritually
profitable. Maybe, while everyone's mind is entertaining thoughts of the
incarnation and birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, you can make for yourself an
opportunity to tell who Christ is, why he came, what he did, and where he is
now.
There is no better way to do that than to give an
explanation of the message that Gabriel delivered to Mary. The angel declared
to the young virgin. "He Shall Be Great." in those words we have an
inspired description of our Savior's person and work. Jesus Christ is treat in
Himself. He is more than the babe of Bethlehem. He is the God-man Mediator. He
is God the Eternal Son, and he is the perfect, sinless man. Jesus Christ is
Great in His Wondrous Works. While upon the earth, he accomplished a perfect
righteousness as our representative. He died as our Substitute, satisfying
every claim of divine justice against us. He arose from the grave,
demonstrating our justification. And he is seated upon the throne of glory as
the King of Grace giving salvation to whom he will by sovereign power.
Perhaps the Holy Spirit will enable you to point
some in your household to Christ this Christmas, by declaring unto them the
great salvation of Jesus Christ.
