THE PUBLIC READING OF SCRIPTURE        

Rev. 1:3

In the temple worship of the Old Testament a prominent place was given to the public reading of Scripture. This custom was carried on during the days of our Lord's earthly ministry, and in the early church, Whenever the church has been strong and well instructed in gospel doctrine, she has made the public reading of the Word of God a regular practice.

                This is a fundamental part of our public worship. If it is truly an act of worship, reading the Scriptures publicly demonstrates our reverence for the volume of inspiration. "Thus saith the Lord", is our only rule of faith and practice. As we read the Word together, let us be willing to hear and ready to obey. "Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy..."
