The Savior Of The World
"We have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be
the Savior of the world."
I John 4:14
The testimony of the Apostles was not the result of some second-hand
information. Those things which these men affirmed to be true they had seen for
themselves. Having seen the Lord and the purpose of his coming into the world,
and having experienced his grace, they were bound to testify concerning him.
Like the Apostles, we have seen certain things by the revelation of the Holy Spirit,
and we are bound to testify what we have seen.
1. WE HAVE SEEN AND MUST
TESTIFY THAT THE WORLD IS SINFUL, GUILTY, AND CURSED.
This world desparately needs a Savior. Read the Word of God. It does
not tell you that the world is good and holy, but depraved and evil. "The
whole world lieth in wickedness." The flood, the Judgment of Sodom and
Gomarrah, and the desolation of Israel, tell us that the world is evil and
cursed. The Political World, the Secular World, and the Religious World in the
times of our Lord were full of evil, as they are today. (Rom. 1:18-32, 3:10-19)
2. WE HAVE SEEN AND MUST
TESTIFY THAT THE LORD JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY SAVIOR OF THE WORLD. (Acts
4:12)
Our Savior was sent by the Father for the express purpose of saving
this evil world. The Jews thought that he would save Israel, by becoming a
physical monarch, and destroy the world. But Christ came to save the world
(John 3:16-18). And he has not failed. Through his incarnation, his righteous
life, and his substitutionary death, the Son of God has accomplished the
salvation of his people in every part of the world. So that wherever there is
found a sinner in the world who believes on Christ, he will not perish but have
everlasting life.
3. WE HAVE SEEN AND MUST
TESTIFY THAT THE LORD JESUS CHRIST IS THE SAVIOR YOU NEED. (Heb. 7:25)
Christ alone is able to save. And, blessed be his name, Christ is
willing to save. If you will trust him, the Son of God can, and he will save
you:
Come, ye souls by sin afflicted,
Bow'd with
fruitless sorrow down;
By the broken law convicted,
Through
the cross behold the crown.
Look to
Jesus--,
Mercy
flows through Him alone.
