"But We See Jesus"

Hebrews 2:9

The Apostle has been talking about the purpose of God, telling us that God has visited man in grace and exalted manhood to the place of dominion over all his creation, through the Person and work of the God-man, Christ Jesus. At present, however, we do not see this purpose of God accomplished. "We see not yet all things put under him. But we see Jesus." And seeing the Lord Jesus Christ by faith, exalted to the throne of sovereign dominion, we are confident of our exaltation and glory in him.

WHAT IS IT TO SEE JESUS? To see him is to trust him, to understand by faith, through Divine revelation, who he is, what he did, and why he did it.

WHO ARE THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SEE THE LORD JESUS CHRIST? No one sees him by nature, or by natural means and abilities. Until a person is born again, he cannot see the things of God (John 3:3; I Cor. 2:14). Natural men and women may know much about Christ. They may understand and rejoice in the doctrine of Christ. But no one can, by nature see (that is know), the Lord Jesus Christ. The only people in this world who see Christ are those to whom he is revealed (Matt. 16:16-17). Those who see him are those who have been chosen, redeemed, and called by him.

WHO DO WE SEE? Our text says, "We see Jesus." How blessed! We see Jesus, who came to save his people from their sins, seated at the right hand of the majesty on high, exalted with the glory of eternal Deity! What can this mean? It means that THE WORK HE CAME TO DO IS DONE! The Lord Jesus Christ has fully and effectually saved his people from their sins. Would he be seated if his work was not done? Would the Father have received him back into heaven if he had failed to save his people? Seeing Jesus in heaven, exalted, we are assured that THIS MAN IS GOD! This Man, our Savior, is the eternal, omnipotent, sovereign God of heaven, earth, and hell. He who sits upon the throne of God is God. And we are assured that ALL FOR WHOM THIS MAN ENTERED INTO HEAVEN MUST FOLLOW HIM THERE. There is a Man in glory! In him we see the pledge of God's eternal purpose. Soon a race of chosen men and women shall be exalted to the place of highest glory by the merits of that Man who is God - JESUS!
