It is God that justifieth

(Rom. 8:33). —

Without question, the Scriptures assert that God’s elect were justified in the decree of God in eternity (Rom. 8:30) and by the death of Christ at Calvary (Rom. 4:25). And we receive justification by faith (Rom. 3:24-26), God declaring the believer just in his own conscience when he believes. Yet, Paul here speaks of justification as a present, continuous act of God? How can that be? The Lord God continually declares believing sinners just in their consciences, as we continually trust Christ alone as the Lord our Righteousness. Blessed, sweet assurance!
