Who Are The Many?

Matthew 20:28

Who are the many for whom Christ gave his life a ransom at Calvary? To find the answer to that question, we must go to the Word of God. That is our authority. That is our basis of faith. If something is in the Bible, we believe it. If it is not in the Bible, we reject it. If you will open the Book of God, you will be able to see very clearly who the many are for whom Christ gave his life a ransom at Calvary. They are the many...whom God the Father ordained to eternal life (Acts 13:48)...who were given to Christ as a Surety in the covenant of grace before the world began (John 17:2)...whose sins he bore in his own body on the tree (Isa. 53:11; Heb. 9:28)...whose sins he has remitted, purged, and put away (Matt. 26:28)...who are justified and made righteous by his obedience (Rom. 5:19). The many for whom Christ gave his life a ransom at Calvary are the many sons he will bring to glory (Heb. 2:9).

Hebrews 2:9 is a verse that will-worshippers love to quote as an imaginary proof that Christ died for all. They build their doctrine on the phrase, "That he by the grace of God should taste death for every man." If any will bother to check a Greek New Testament, they will discover that the word man is not in the text at all. It was added by our translators to make the passage read more smoothly. Literally translated, the last phrase of Hebrews 2:9 would read, "that he by the grace of God should taste death for every            ." Those for whom Christ died, for whom he tasted death, are identified in the verses immediately following. They are the many sons he brings to glory (v. 10)...the brethren he sanctifies and owns (v. 11)...the children God gave him (v. 13)...the them delivered from the bondage and fear of death (vv. 14-15)...the seed of Abraham whom he took hold on to save (v. 16)...and the people for whom he is a faithful, saving High Priest (vv. 17-18).

The many for whom Christ gave his life a ransom are the many who believe on him unto life everlasting. Are you one of them?
