"A Ransom For Many"

Matthew 20:28

Wherever the death of Christ is spoken of and explained in the Word of God, it is always spoken of as a limited atonement which effectually secured the everlasting salvation of those for whom it was made. Read the Scriptures for yourself (Rom. 5:8; Gal. 3:13; Tit. 2:14; Rev. 5:9; 14:3-4). In each of these texts, three things are obvious to any who read them without prejudice:

     1. The atonement was made for a specific people - "Us" who are redeemed and saved by it!

     2. The atonement secured specific results - redemption, faith, and holiness!

     3. All for whom Christ made atonement shall be found in heaven at last, singing the praises of the Lamb!

Christ died for many, not all, but many, for a great multitude which no man can number, but not for all. The Son of man gave his life "a ransom for many." I want you to see this and clearly understand it. The many for whom Christ gave his life a ransom must be saved. In the matter of salvation, everything is absolute and certain. Nothing is undecided. Nothing is left to chance. I repeat, the many for whom the Lord Jesus Christ gave his life a ransom must and shall be saved because...

The purpose of God the Father cannot be disappointed. God purposed to save his elect from eternity by the sacrifice of his Son (Rom. 8:28-30; Eph. 1:4-7; Rev. 13:8). He declares, "Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand" (Isa. 14:24).

The propitiation of God the Son cannot be denied. The blood of Christ is a propitiatory sacrifice,a payment made to divine justice for the satisfaction of the debt incurred by the sins of his people (Rom. 3:24-26; I John 4:10).If even one of those for whom propitiation was made perishes, that means that God has refused to accept his Son's blood for payment. That cannot be!

The power of God the Holy Spirit cannot be defeated. The Holy Spirit comes to chosen, redeemed sinners to regenerate and preserve them until the day of their resurrection (Eph. 1:13-14). If even one fails to attain resurrection glory, the power of his grace would be defeated. But that will never happen!
