Covenant
Grace
2 Samuel
23:5
The grace of God, by
which we are saved, is set forth in the Word of God as Covenant Grace (Ephesians
1:2-6; 2 Timothy 1:9). Salvation is the result of a covenant made between the
three Persons of the Holy Trinity before the world began. In that blessed,
firm, and everlasting covenant of grace four things happened...
- A people were chosen
unto salvation (2 Thessalonians 2:13-14). All who will be saved in time
were chosen to salvation before the world began.
- A ransom was found
for the redemption of the chosen (Job 33:24; Revelation 13:8). Christ,
the Son of God, stepped forth and volunteered to die in the room and
stead of his chosen; and he was accepted as the Lamb of God slain for us
from the foundation of the world.
- A seal was pledged.
— The Lord Jesus, the great Angel of the Covenant (Revelation
10:1-3), gave command saying, ŇHurt not the earth till we have sealed
the hundred and forty and four thousand,Ó my elect by my Spirit (2
Peter 3:9; Ephesians 1:13-14).
- The salvation of
GodŐs elect was secured in divine predestination. Yes, GodŐs elect were
saved from eternity in covenant grace. That is precisely stated in Holy
Scripture (Romans 8:28-30; Ephesians 1:3-6).
Saving
grace is covenant grace. You cannot understand what the Bible teaches about
grace unless you begin in eternity, in the everlasting covenant
